Recording and Rehearsal Studios

Recording and Rehearsal Studios

Very few guitarists make it to the recording studio, and for good reason: only the most committed and hard-working bands usually get to the recording studio. But don’t let this put you off. Recording your own material is one of the most satisfying and rewarding things a guitarist can do, and equally rewarding for your teacher. Trust Guitar Lessons Reading, we would know.

Out House Studios

Out House Studios can boast a ridiculous number of quality bands that have recorded in its premises. Enter Shikari, You Me At Six, The Blackout, Architects, My Passion, Funeral For A Friend, Exit Ten, Your Demise, Lower Than Atlantis, Justin Hawkins (of The Darkness fame) have all recorded here. The top bands that have recorded here all fit into the hard-core or classic-rock category, something to take in mind. This reflects the speciality of their sound technician John Mitchell, who has 18 years experience of producing this genre of music. The recording studio itself can compete in the spec-department with any other studio in the UK, but also has the added benefit of being located in a picturesque Victorian outhouse.

Whitehouse Studios

Whitehouse Studios markets itself on providing three top-quality services: recording, rehearsal and ‘experience’. The first two are relatively self-explanatory and the bread-and-butter of the recording studio industry. A studio ‘experience’ is something a bit more unique: Whitehouse explains that it can be hired out for ‘children’s parties’ or ‘stag do’s’. We’re not so sure: I don’t know about you but I’m pretty sure that when I was four I would rather have played party games involving an anatomically-incomplete donkey than record my debut album. Maybe this is a tad unfair because, otherwise, Whitehouse offers a professional recording service which any band would be more than lucky to experience. For you lads’ a boozy weekend away, or maybe just to record a couple of demos, head down to 79 Elgar Road, Reading, Berkshire RG2 0DH.

Silver Street Studios

Silver Street Studios boasts 5 different producers, ensuring that you’ll be able to find a sound that suits your style. Located in the centre of Reading at 26-30 Silver St, Reading, RG1 2ST, the studio is easy to get to from bus and train stations: perfect if you don’t have any means of transport. The studio is also reasonably priced and a full day session of 8 hours only costs £160. Otherwise, band recording costs £25 per hour which in today’s market, is very competitive. The studio also offers vocal recording and voice recording as possible options.

PlugnPlay Studios

PlugnPlay Studios is Reading’s largest studio and, as such, can give you the largest amount of choice and options when recording. Their studio has a separate vocal recording booth that ensures that vocals are crisp and clear, unsullied by background or instrument noise. However, this studios premier features do come at a price: a day’s recording costs £250 or the studio, complete with sound engineers and full use of equipment. Alternatively, it costs £37.5 per hour to hire out. Nevertheless, they offer a great weekday deal, in which you can pay for a day’s recording session for only £200. That’s only £25 per hour. If you’d like to take a closer look, PugnPlay is situated at 35 Milford Road, Reading RG1 8LG.
