Guitar Shops in Reading

Guitar Shops in Reading

The big wide world of music shops can be quite daunting, especially if you’re new to playing the guitar. Most players find that they’ll stick to one shop and use that to buy everything they need and to guarantee the good maintenance of their instruments. If you need a bit of guidance as to the guitar shops in and around Reading, you’ve come to the right place. This list will give you a brief idea of what different shops have to offer.

Dawsons Reading

Dawsons Reading is the largest Dawson’s shops in the country and is guaranteed to blow you away. As you enter the shop, you’re confronted by a huge wall of guitars, containing nearly every type and model you could dream of. It mainly stocks electric guitars and basses but acoustic models are also available. They have instruments to match everyone’s price range: being an official Gibsons and Fender dealer, they have flag-ship model Les Pauls and Stratocasters but also stock more affordable makes such as Epiphone and Squier. As such, do not miss out this shop if you’re looking to buy a guitar in Reading and head down to 65 Caversham Road, Reading, RG1 8AD.

Apex Music

Apex Music is run by a team of incredibly helpful professional musicians who are all experts in the art of electric guitar. Apex’s staff are all skilled guitar technicians and there isn’t a better place in Reading to take your guitar if you need a guitar re-stringing, a full set up or a truss-rod adjustment. This won’t burn a hole in your pocket either with a full set-up costing only £45. Furthermore, if you’re amateur band wants to play a few one-off gigs but has no live equipment, you can hire it all from Apex; this saves the cost and hassle of buying and maintaining your own gear. Apex is located at 106 Loddon Bridge Road, Woodley, Berkshire RG5 4AW. Go down and have a look for yourself, Apex will always be happy to see you.

Hickies

Hickies is a good example of what not to call a successful business unless you want to open your own branch of Ann Summers. Despite its unfortunate name, Hickies is a surprisingly good music shop and offers everything a guitarist could need: guitars, basses, amps, PA equipment. You name it Hickies has got it. Not limiting itself purely to guitars, it also has string, brass and woodwind instruments and stocks a wide variety of sheet music; perfect for bringing to your guitar teacher to learn new songs. To have a closer look, head down to 153 Friar Street, Reading, RG1 1HE.

Music Man Reading

Music Man Reading is a specialist second-hand guitar and music shop. I always think that this type of shop is the most interesting because you can always find a selection of obscure and unique instruments among a few absolute bargains. Especially remarkable is the selection of vintage amplifiers that they stock and I’ve had my eye on their vintage Fender Twin Reverb for a while. They’ll also buy instruments second hand, so Music Man is an ideal place to take any unwanted items. To have a look for yourself, head down to 207 Oxford Road, Reading, RG1 7PX.
